Our Ceremony

I can tell you a little about our plans for the ceremony.

You will be seated between 12:15 and 12:30 to the music of Thomas Tallis.

The ceremony begins with a song sung by my beautiful daughter, Celestial, and accompanied by my eldest son Zen. The song is one that Debbie and I selected "The Lake," the lyrics are a poem by Edgar Allan Poe.

The Bride arrives with her son Christian and Debbie's father, who are "giving her away." (Cough! Slight objection on my part to the very notion but Debbie assures me that it's fine, really.)

The ceremony will begin with a blessing from our special Rastafarian friend Jah World.

The presiding Minster is Jason Powers, also a special friend of ours. Jason is a Minister of The Universal Life Church.

Jason will then welcome the assembled and remind us of why we are here today.

Debbie and I will exchange personally written vows. Neither of us have seen the vows that the other has written.

A coin will be tossed by Jason to select which one of use reads first. This is the introduction of symbolic randomness to represent our joint spontaneity.

Then Jason will walk us through a modified version of the traditional vows, the "I dos."

The Best Man, my son Freedom, will be called to produce the wedding rings.

The rings will be blessed by Jason.

We will exchange the rings.

We will be introduced as husband and wife. Yay!!

Dinner will be served, a few speeches. We will wander around the tables to speak with friends and family.

A cake made by my son-inlaw Minoru will be cut and shared.

We intend to take the first dance.

On Gifts

Your gift to us is simply your presence, we are very happy that you will be attending.

However, we have had numerous requests concerning gifts and we appreciate your generosity. Something simple will suffice and gift cards are more than adequate. Gifts sent by mail can be sent to the Laurel Mill Lodge address.

If in doubt, call Debbie at (408) 830 4737 ... :-)

Directions, Weather and Event Schedule

DIRECTIONS

The venue is at the mountain retreat where Debbie and I live. Specific directions to the Wedding location that can be found on the Laurel Mill web site.

http://www.laurelmilllodge.com/mapbox/

The simplest route is to take the Laurel Road exit off of i17. This exit is on the right from Santa Cruz and on the left from San Jose. The final location is approximately 30 minutes away from Silicon Valley, 25 minutes from Santa Cruz.

  1. Laurel Road is a narrow country road that runs down the side of the mountain to the township of Laurel, manifest as a few residential properties at a junction.
  2. You will take the right downward onto Redwood Lodge Road.
  3. When you reach the bottom of the valley the entrance to Laurel Mill Lodge will be on your right just after the small bridge.
  4. Head down to the car park past the Lodge that will be on your right, then walk back to the Lodge where you will be greeted.

SCHEDULE

We plan to begin with the ceremony as close to 12:30 as possible. So please arrive between 12:00 and 12:15. The Lodge entrance will be closed when the ceremony is about to begin.

Weather permitting, the ceremony will take place outside, undercover if necessary.

The reception will be held inside of the Lodge, where it will be warm and there will be a fireplace.

The event will officially end at 5:00pm.

WEATHER

We have had warm weather this past week up in the 80s but it cools off quickly here. The currently predicted weather is that it will be cold that day, in the 60s with predicted showers, but it's really too far out for these predictions to have any real value. I'll keep you informed here as the week closes. In any case, bring a warm coat.

We both look forward to seeing you all.
